OrderOps — Research & Validation

The messy orders your automation didn’t finish.

OrderOps is a concept being researched by Molvor for Shopify brands using external fulfillment partners. The focus is the subset of orders that still require someone to investigate, correct, or coordinate after normal automation has already run.

The problem under study

Most orders flow automatically. The exceptions don’t.

Ecommerce operations can run from Shopify to a 3PL or warehouse system, then a carrier, support, and returns. Most orders move through those systems without manual work.

The research is focused on residual exceptions: cases that still need a person after the usual automation has already run. The list is examples under research, not a claim about every merchant.

Examples under research

  • Approved cancellation not reaching the warehouse
  • Address changes not propagating
  • Missing or inconsistent tracking
  • Shopify and 3PL fulfillment states disagreeing
  • Duplicate or partial fulfillment
  • Return/refund status mismatch

Current workflow and the concept

Today, people often become the integration layer.

The research question is whether recurring, deterministic exceptions can be identified across systems, safely resolved under merchant-defined rules, and escalated only when human judgment is actually required.

Current state

  1. Exception appears
  2. Employee notices
  3. Checks multiple systems
  4. Contacts warehouse or support
  5. Updates records
  6. Verifies resolution

Concept being explored

  1. Detect
  2. Verify
  3. Resolve
  4. Escalate

Scope of the concept

What OrderOps would not be

The concept is intended to operate after existing automation and fulfillment systems have already done their normal job — focusing only on the residual operational exceptions they leave behind.

  • Not another helpdesk.
  • Not another tracking page.
  • Not a replacement for your 3PL.

Participation

Who this research is for

People who already see these exceptions in the work between a Shopify brand and an outside fulfillment partner.

  • Shopify / Shopify Plus brands
  • Brands using an external 3PL or fulfillment provider
  • Ecommerce operations teams
  • CX / customer operations teams
  • Supply chain / fulfillment managers

Validation

What we’re trying to learn

  1. 01

How often do residual order exceptions occur?

  2. 02

Which exception types repeat across merchants?

  3. 03

How much employee time do they consume?

  4. 04

Which cases are safe enough to automate under explicit rules?
